Important Information for Parents
If you have received an Order of Suspension, please read the following:
The health unit is required under the Immunization of School Pupil’s Act (ISPA) to collect and maintain up to date records of immunization for every child registered in school in Simcoe County and Muskoka District. Specifically, theISPA states that parents are required to provide the health unit withproof of completed immunization for measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, diphtheria and polio or with the appropriate documentation if they choose not to have their child immunized.
Questionnaires/consents were sent home in January to students with no immunization history, or an incomplete immunization history. An immunization clinic was held at each secondary school to allow students the opportunity to receive vaccines or provide up to date information to the school nurse.
If you have received a suspension notice it is because we still do not have an up to date immunization record on file at the health unit. Your child must receive the vaccine required or provide the appropriate documentation if they choose not to be immunized before April 1, 2008, or they will be suspended from school. As soon as the health unit receives this information the suspension order is lifted.
If you call the health unit with questions or to up date your child’s record, you will likely receive voicemail. Please leave your name, your child’s name, child’s date of birth, school, phone number and any vaccines received and we will update your child’s record electronically. Please note that due to the high number of calls received during this time it may be one to two business days before your call is returned.
Throughout this process, health unit staff will be available to answer questions and facilitate the collection of needed information. The health unit also offers immunization clinics in all local offices to help families update their child’s immunization.
